Welcome To Kirk Todd’s Garage

“Since 1981”

I am Kirk Todd owner of Kirk Todd’s Garage, where we have been doing truck and auto repair in Clio since 1981. Cars and trucks have changed dramatically since I started repairing automobiles in 1973 (see the end of this article). I began working in a dealership in 1976 and remained at that dealer while I attended college at Ferris State. I moved to Clio and opened Kirk Todd’s Garage shortly after graduation. I am GOLD master certified by A.S.E. I have been certified by A.S.E since 1976 in both car and heavy truck category’s. ASE stands for Automotive Service Excellence.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find the same level of expertise that our auto mechanic specialists provide! We have years of experience working on both domestic and import vehicles of all makes and models and can work with you to find cost-effective vehicle repair and maintenance alternatives. We use the latest technology to assess the situation and offer you alternatives. We guarantee all of our work and know you’ll be happy with the outcome. Feel comfortable owning a vehicle

At Kirk Todd’s Garage, we want our customers to have the opportunity to feel comfortable in their vehicle. You can leave the repairs and services to our professionals, but please don’t hesitate to ask us questions about why a service is needed or how it occurred. Give us a call at 810-687-0560, and we will be happy to speak with you.

Kirk Todd’s Garage can repair anything from rattles in the dash or noises in the suspension to transmission work. We can replace the filter and fluids during normal transmission maintenance or we can overhaul the whole transmission if necessary.

Battery maintenance is very important. The battery in your car or truck has lead plates separated by insulators. These insulators can break apart and cause the battery to fail over time. The battery will slowly die a little every day and you may never know it until the engine won’t crank and start the car. For this reason you should have your battery tested annually and replaced when it begins to fail before you notice a problem. I specialize in air conditioning systems. We can replace or repair all or any components in your AC system. We recharge AC systems too.

Another basic item often overlooked is your cabin air filter. If your car is equipped with a filter and it is plugged it can restrict the airflow from the heater or air conditioner. The cabin air filters can also be a breeding ground for allergens. If you suffer from allergies this is a sure reason for having your filters checked regularly.

If you have a truck with a gross vehicle weight of 10,000 lbs. or more you must have a Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) inspection sticker. We at Kirk Todd’s Garage can perform this service also.

At Kirk Todd’s Garage, we can perform all scheduled maintenance spelled out in your owner’s manual. Whenever possible we use all O.E. (original Equipment) parts to repair your car. If your car or truck is a GM, Ford, or Chrysler we can use those O.E. parts in your repair. We service all makes and models except for a few European cars.

You see, at Kirk Todd’s Garage, we repair just about everything on your car or truck – everything from under the hood to behind the dash, from the headlights to the brake lights, from the sunroof to the tires. We have you covered. At Kirk Todd’s Garage, we are not just a one stop shop. We are the only shop you need! Like going to the grocery store to shop under 1 roof, at Kirk Todd’s Garage all your car repairs can be made under my roof.

TIMELINE OF AUTOMOBILE ADVANCEMENT SINCE I HAVE BEEN IN THE BUSINESS:

  • 1974 – Electronic ignition
  • 1975 – Catalytic converter
  • 1980 – Computer controlled carburetor (young techs today have no clue what a carburetor even is or how they operate).
  • 1982 – Computer controlled fuel injection systems
  • 1986 – Anti-lock brakes
  • 1970s – Airbags came along with little success
  • 1980s – Airbags re-appeared & became popular
  • 1990s – Traction control systems
  • Late 90s – Side air bags triggered by roll sensors in the body of the car
  • 2007 – Stabili-Track

In the late 1970s cars and trucks were often worn out/rusted out and in the salvage yard before 100,000 miles. Today we see cars and trucks regularly with 200,000-300,000 miles and with proper maintenance are still going strong. The automobile has become very complex in the last 15 years. There is more computing power in one computing module today than in the entire Apollo spacecraft program of the 1970s.
